Reyjavik - i could live here (at least in the summer)

OJust awoke from a great night's sleep -- first real sleep of this trip.   We arrived in Rekjavik yesterday  morning.  Being this is a scandinavian kind of place, everything functions and everyone is nice.   The city feels much smaller than i'd have expected.  This is positive.  Pretty little houses and artsy touches. How is that 300,000 people can have a National Museum, national gallery, beautiful concert hall?  The guidebooks say Iceland that in summer Iceland is not as cold as you would think.  That might not be true, especially this year.  Spring has been late to arrive and garden daffodils and tulips were just coming up.

We met our tour group this afternoon and set off in our van with icelandic guide, Tryssti.  We stopped in several gorgeous places, and passed volcanoes and glaciers before getting to Skalholt where we spend the next three days.  I think we already saw 50 different species.

Things i did not know: icelanders are crazy about golf and have built golf courses all over.   Yes you can overtax geothermal resources and the ground will sink.  Like Hawaii, there are some little and still growing islands trailing the big one.

Tallest church in Rekjavik
And our hotel across the street
