Last day in the south of Iceland

We finished up our stay in the south by seeing geysers, more spectacular waterfalls, and then the very historic site of Iceland's first Allthing (assembly) at Thingvellir.   It is a national park.  Iceland is currently wrestling with how to charge fees at national parks.

I am enjoying our fellow travellers and am impressed with their dedication to birds and birding.  A few folks saw an arctic fox today.

A few more odd things I've learned about Iceland:  they have only 100 people in prison (for a population of over 300,000).   Their flag colors represent water, ice and fire (volcanoes).   Their most active volcano, Heckla, gives us such expressions as "aw heck".    Heckla was thought to be a portal to hell.  I still don't know what they do all winter long.
